  1. A good episode based on a very strange story. I don’t have anything to add to your commentary, but I do want to comment on the “Birth of Venus” view of Wanda. First, the famous painting is by Botticelli. Second, I thought of the same painting when I saw this, but I interpreted it as a kind of “call-back” to Wonder Woman (Princess Diana) and her origin of a statue made by Hyppolyta, Queen of the Amazons, which was brought to life by Aphrodite (the Greek version of Venus), and gifted with her many abilities by the gods of Olympus. Maybe I read too much into just that picture, but that’s what I thought of.

  2. Jadine says:

    Ahh, Wonder Woman. The character that philosophized so much that she retconned herself out of existence in the Tangent universe when Tangent Superman’s Reign came along! (This, despite visible images of her within the backup features in said comic and other places like Ion. COMICS.)

    To be honest, I’m not sure if this would be the ‘Sea Devils of the second wave’. In my opinion, between this and Batman, I’d say Batman was weaker than this–at least the concept behind this one seemed more appealing, even with its execution. This struck me as the ‘deeper social gender aspect’ of this universe, something that mainstream comics don’t touch upon within their universe, other than pre-52 DC Wonder Woman naturally. Or maybe that’s just me (I’d loved to also see the role that religion played within Tangent, but oh well.)…At the same time, this was more of a hassle to read than Batman, SO. It’s a ‘different strokes for different folks’ title, methinks.

    Also Dan Jurgens interview…please let that not be a dream, pleeeeeeeaseeee. For so long I’ve wanted to know his own thoughts and creative processes on the Tangent line–just as I did for Rian Hughes, which I still can’t believe you managed to interview him. Seriously, you guys still are my heroes for doing that ;_;
