When the book hit the stands, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster had already established themselves as published — and popular — comic book creators. However, the immediate, groundbreaking and astronomical success of Superman not only jump-started an industry, but permanently etched Siegel’s and Shuster’s names into the lexicon of pop culture and enshrined them among the legends of American fiction.<\/p>\n
