Cleveland’s ‘Superman’ fence damaged

The fence surrounding the property which once contained the house a young Joe Shuster called home has been damaged again.

Damaged fence

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a driver swerved from the road, crashing through the fence, located in the Glenville neighborhood of Cleveland, about 5 p.m. June 5. According to the report, the man now faces charges including driving while intoxicated.

The large metal plates on the fence, reproducing the pages from the Superman story originally published in ACTION COMICS #1, were added in 2009 through a joint effort of the Glenville Development Corporation and the Siegel and Shuster Society. It commemorates not only the creation of Superman in the city, but also his creators, Jerry Siegel and Shuster.

The fence previously was damaged in May 2011 when a driver likewise crashed through the fence, but was later repaired, reportedly paid for by the driver.
