The Thrilling Adventures of Superman

Welcome to episode 56 The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

Charlie Niemeyer is back as he and Michael look at the seventh storyline from the Superman radio serial. Clark Kent is enlisted to aid in solving the mystery of some airplane disasters — and when Jimmy Olsen tags along, both our favorite cub reporter and the Man of Steel get much more than they bargained for! It’s a fun (if not somewhat maddening) six-episode tale as Superman deals with feral gorillas, rock slides, confused writers and more!

And be sure to check out Charlie’s podcast, Superman in the Bronze Age! A huge thanks once more to Mr. Niemeyer for coming on the show.

QUOTABLE:
Gosh, Mr. Kent! Don’t tell me you licked the strongman!

The Thrilling Adventures of Superman

Welcome to episode 48 The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

A missing man and a mysterious house are the catalyst for this adventure as Michael is rejoined by Charlie Niemeyer for a look at the fifth storyline from the Superman radio serial. What follows is ancient natives, a mystical emerald, uncomfortable period dialogue and most certainly… a job for Superman!

And be sure to check out Charlie’s podcast, Superman in the Bronze Age! A huge thanks once more to Mr. Niemeyer for coming on the show.

QUOTABLE:
You’ve seen a little magic already — just a very little! I call it the magic of Krypton! Now, you’re going to see a lot more!
Superman

The Superman radio show, obviously, doesn’t allow for scans of images from the story. But, here’s a picture of Frank Welker, who we talked about in one of the episode’s tangents.

The Thrilling Adventures of Superman

Welcome to episode 46 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

Charlie Niemeyer is back in the house as he and Michael look at the fourth storyline from the Superman radio serial, and it’s a good thing he is, because this storyline is jam-packed! It’s starts off with a prison riot, where two familiar fiends break loose. Then, after Superman’s most vile villains come face-to-face for the first time, our hero travels to the town of Dyerville (or it Dyersville? Or Dryerville?!) to investigate mysterious tragedies plaguing the town.

And be sure to check out Charlie’s podcasts, Superman in the Bronze Age and Podcast of Justice! A huge thanks once more to Mr. Niemeyer for coming on the show.

QUOTABLE:
This isn’t the time for boasting, Mr. Kent
Lois Lane

The Superman radio show, obviously, doesn’t allow for scans of images from the story. However, here is a look at a couple spot illustrations, that accompanied the text adaptation of the story in the March and April 1941 issues of Radio and Television Mirror, as well as a look at those issues’ covers. Art was likely done by members of the Shuster shop. Who penned the adaptations themselves, however, is not known.

Superman goes into action to squelch a blazing inferno and try to rescue a trapped woman. But is there more to it than a simple fire? Find out in this six-episode story that leads Superman into an adventure that traverses land, sea and air!

And be sure to check out Charlie’s podcasts, Superman in the Bronze Age and Podcast of Justice! A huge thanks once more to Mr. Niemeyer for coming on the show.

QUOTABLE:
If the fire department can’t reach her, why do you think you can?
Perry White (to Clark Kent)

The Superman radio show, obviously, doesn’t allow for scans of images from the story. However, here is a look at a couple spot illustrations, that accompanied the text adaptation of the story in the February 1941 issue of Radio and Television Mirror. (Unfortunately, I was unable to find a scan of the cover of that issue.) Click on the images for larger views, as always, in addition to their original captions. Art was likely done by members of the Shuster shop. Who penned the adaptations themselves, however, is not known.
